Gossner Theological College (GTC) was initially founded in 30th January 1866. It was instituted in the Chotanagpur region by the German Lutheran Missionaries who were sent by Fr. Johannes Evangelista Gossner from Berlin, Germany. During the First World War (1914-1919), the College was closed down. The College reopened later in 1921. At the time of the Second World War (1939-1945), the College was shifted to Govindpur and Lohardaga and back to Ranchi in 1948 with its campus of the present Gossner High School. The current location of the College campus was instituted in 1965.
